Born in London, Ontario, Mary was raised in Ottawa. She began her education there, receiving a B.A. from Carleton University. She went on to get a B.Ed. from Queens University, and then travelled to Oxford and Exeter Universities in England to do post graduate studies in drama. In the mid 1970's, back home, she studied Visual Arts at the University of Ottawa. She currently lives with her husband on a 15-acre farm near Elphin, Ontario.
Mary started off working with traditional paint techniques, using brush, acrylics and water colours. Her digital paintings, in contrast, were done on a Macintosh computer, using various painting programs.

As a photographer, Mary began by using Olympus and Hasselblad film cameras. But technology changes, and she soon found herself using her Olympus digital camera more and more. Part of the draw was the fact that going digital meant the ability to "develop" photographs at home. Today, she has switched completely from film to digital. She currently uses Canon SLR digital cameras with image-stabilized Canon lenses.

Since 2002, Mary has retired from her family publishing business, and has focused on video and photography full-time. She has photographed in Arizona, New Mexico, California, Florida and Ontario, but has a special love for the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. Over the past 10 years, she has spent countless days photographing birds, mammals and plants at the museum. This attraction lead her to approach the curator of mamology at the museum, and as a?result, Mary will be collaborating with the museum on a number of projects on a volunteer basis. The will be focused on producing videos for educational and promotional purposes, as well as some still photography. Mary is very pleased to be working with such a magnificent institution.
In Ontario, Mary has been working on a number of projects, including working with the North Sherbrooke Historical Society on their 2007 calendar.
